Question about rearend
hey guys..-really quick question....Did 92 Rs's come stock with posi rearends? b/c my 92 RS convert has posi. my buddy seems to think that RS's didnt come with 9 bolt posi. thank guys!
If it is a 9 bolt posi then no, it is not the original rear in the car. The vast majority of RS's has no posi and either 2.73 or 3.08 gears in a 10 bolt. No 9 bolts in 92 at all in any third gen.

Ratio has nothing to do with posi.
The RS in that year was the "cheap", "non-performance", base-model Camaro. Unless special-ordered, they got only the most basic stuff. Better running gear was very rarely ordered by any customer in his right mind, because it's a whole lot cheaper to just buy the better car with the total package to begin with, and get the better car with all the right stuff, than it is to order a cheap car and then add options to it one by one. As a result, you very, very rarely see RSs that came with posi. People who wanted a performance car .... bought a performance model of car, instead of a RS.
The 9-bolt was discontinued after 89. So no 92 came with one. And no RS came with one in any year.
Some Z28s and the equivalent Pontiac models did however come with 2.73 or 3.08 posi rears. So it's not impossible to end up with the combo of a gas-mileage grocery cart gear and a posi.
All of that has nothing to do necessarily with what's in the car now. Turn a few bolts, and most anything can be put in there, and often is.

also if it is a 9 bolt and posi, i thought the ratio stock was 2.77... 2.73 came on the 10 bolt... best way to tell if its posi... do a brake stand/burn out... 2 patchs.. posi 1 patch... open...
