Proper 700-r4 operation?

My 700r4 isnt shifting right rpm and speed-wise. I had one in a camaro before this one and it was nothing special, but I loved the control I had over the shift just using the gas pedal. Basically, anywhere between 1/3 and 2/3 throttle would cause a single downshift, and anything past that would cause a double downshift. I could hold a gear, basically, until I let off the gas and let it shift. I've also heard many times that the 700r4 should never shift into overdrive at WOT with a stock setup. This is basically how my last 700r4 worked and I loved it. I now have a differnet camaro and 700r4 that was recently rebuilt, but I don't like the setup. No matter how much I press the gas, the car will shift around 2750-3250 in every gear, and shifts into overdrive at 73 mph no matter how hard I press the gas. Sometimes I can get it to downshift the proper way (one gear down at 1/3 throttle, two at WOT), but its unpredictable at best. What is the PROPER way that a 700r4 SHOULD shift? I can take it back to the shop and have them change it, but I'd like to know the way its supposed to work. I want it to shift at 4300 when I'm at WOT and to downshift like my last one did, and not go into overdrive unless I let it. What do you guys think?

If the shifts are pretty much the same no matter how hard you press on the throttle, then I would suspect a sticking Throttle valve. The Trans-Go Shift kit can solve this in most instances.

But am I right that it should not shift into overdrive when I'm at WOT? And the tranny shop should be able to accomplish what I described? Thanks

Some 700R4's will do WOT 3-4 shifts, and some will not. It mainly depends on where the 4-3 downshift passage in the TV plunger sleeve is located.

Have you checked your tv cable adj? Mine did the same thing when I bought it and I had to do some playing with the tv cable to get it to shift higher. I now have shifts at 4500 rpm's, lower than i would like but that also lowered the rpm's that is shifted into 2nd, it would snap your neck with even very light throttle when the tv cable was adj to shift at 5500. I also had no down shift what so ever.

I've set the TV cable back as far as possible, so I think the stuff down low needs to be messed with.
