late shifting

So when I get on thegas I noticed that my car doesn't shift till it hits about 5 grand. When I bought the car off my freind he said that it had a shift kit installed on it. It is a 1984 trans Am. I also noticed it shifts hard from first to second and that sometimes the tires will bark when doing so. But my main concern is it ok that it shifts so late when I jump on the gas? Thanks

Yours definately sounds like a bad transmission dude sorry to hear that. Very painful. Anyway I think mine just needs an adjustment so I'm gonna look into it.
