New built 700r4.....revs slow in 3rd...why?

Tranny has a Vette Stall (2050rpm), billet servo, boost valve and a shift kit, not sure about 3-4 clutch packs but I am pretty sure the shop put those in there too.

On the interstate WOT in 3rd gear the engine revs slow after about 3100rpm. I mean slow as in you can watch it go from 3100 to 3200 to 3300 etc. The transmission has probably about 75-100 miles on it. Could it be because the transmission is still basically new and everything is still "tight" or what?

Please help!!

Should I take it back to the tranny shop?

P.S. - I didn't have this problem before the transmission was rebuilt, it reved freely.

The first question is, How old is that converter? It could be a lock up problem. I just had my 700R4 rebuilt and am having similar problems, but I still have the 12 year old stock converter in my car. Not for long though. Anyway, I'd take it back and explain what the car is doing. Let me know what you find out, and I'll do the same. My car goes back wed. morning, and I should have it back thurs. afternoon. The rack has already been reserved!!

Thanks for the reply. As far as I know it is a rebuilt Vette Stall. So it SHOULD be new or rebuilt but I guess I will find out when I take it back or at least call them next week. I'll let you know what I find out.

I'd SWAG it as the billet servo not allowing the 2/4 band to completely release. In effect the transmission is in two gears at the same time.

If so it won't be long before the 3/4 clutch packs and the 2/4 band are fried.

RBob.

Mike, sorry it took so long to get back to you, but I have had some real problems getting my tranny straight. I ended up having to take it somewhere else to get it straight. To make a long story short, I had major cross leaking going on in my tranny. It is all fixed now, and bangs hard as hell with the TV cable backed off of it. If you'd like to know what I have inside if it, I'd be glad to share it with you, just let me know. Depending on the type of street I'm on, I can bark the tires going into 3rd gear now. So, have you gotten yours straight?

Nope not yet, but I did find out my radiator was clogged and since I got it cleaned out my car runs better and transmission acts a little better. I don't know when I will get back to the tranny shop because I start a new job Monday(Iroc is my only car). Oh, I was at a friends house the other day on an inclined driveway, when I went to leave there was a little patch of fresh tranny fluid on the driveway. What a bunch of

What parts do you have in your tranny? I'll get back with you whenever I drop it off and find out what is going on.

Mike, My tranny was rebuilt with the following: The forward and rear sprags were replaced, its got all new Borg Warner green racing clutches and new steels. A 13 vein impeller in the pressure pump, a 500 lb boost valve, all heavy duty racing green bans, a Corvette servo, a Superior HD shift kit, and a Corvette converter with a cut stator (roughly 2400-2500 stall). The rebuild costed me $1440 but it was worth it, and came with a 1 yr or 12,000 mile warranty. My car hits hard as hell!!! I'm working nights through this weekend, but I can't wait to get it on the track. Last time I ran it I went 13.99 @ 101.3. After that I found all kinds of problems. Had a plug wire arcing against the header, One plug was only in by 2 threads, timing was retarded 2 degrees,(timing is now 4 degrees advanced) the tranny was sliding through the gears, and the stock converter was in the car. I have also added March pulleys since my last run. I know she gonna really blow through the traps now. I just have to hook her up right!! Here she is!
