Transmissions and Drivetrain Need help with your trans? Problems with your axle?

doesnt look like retrofitting drum brakes will work...

doesnt look like retrofitting drum brakes will work...

looks like I have another project on my hands...


saw in another post that all i have to do to get my drums (10-bolt) on my 9-bolt is cut the ears off the rear, drill 4 holes, do some minor trimming here and tehre and it would work. yyheahh, right... Doesnt look like it will work with my 88 rear. The plates on the rear are narrower then the distance from one bolt hole to another and their almost half an inch thick. The holes wouldnt be holes, theyd be more like notches. And for the thickness and the bearings, g0d only nows, id probably have to machine it down in the center to get the necesary thickness to retain the axles.

Those who have done this, how did you get it to work. I personally get the feeling that im going to be rummaging for another set of brakes that where made for this rear but i guess it doesnt hurt to ask.

Find the backing plate from am 85 9-bolt with drums I know they are out there as that is what my last TA had.
