Think the tranny blew. Your opinions?

Getting on an on-ramp today i was mildly on the car, not WOT and at the top of 2nd gear I thought it was taking too long to shift, the RPM's were much to high (still only 4,500rpms or so, but I wasn't at WOT), before I could let off I heard a BANG and I lost drive. The engine just freewheeled with a whining sound to it.

I let it coast as much as I can, occasionally reving it to see if I could get any acceloration out of the car, hoping to limp home.

After I coasted to a stop I got out and checked the fluids, ALL of them were fine! Tranny fluid was pink, clean, proper level, and didn't smell burned. No particles in it either.

I have NO gears at all. OD, D, 2, 1, and R are gone. The car simply will NOT move an inch. When I rev the engine I hear a whine that changes pitch with engine RPM.

Did i blow the tranny? Did the torque converter go? Did I strip the input shaft?

What are your opinions?

When the tranny is in park the car will NOT move, so at least P is working as it should. While the car is in drive i checked the driveshaft to see if it was moving, its dead still.

No money, not a bit to spend. Believe me, if I had the money the first time around I would have bought a Pro-built tranny in the first place, or had a local performance shop do it.

But I don't, if I have to drop a used tranny in there, I will, but I don't have the cash right now do put a built one in there.

you could remove it yourself (to save money) and have it rebuilt. i know a few good guys that own/work in a trans shop, i'll tell them what you posted and see if they can come up with anything. have you tried moving the car sence it happend?

Yes I have tried to move it, it won't move at all, putting the car in any of the drive gears including reverse is just like putting the car in neutral.

Here is a audio clip, 2 megs.

1st start - Idling in park with some revs thrown in. (before tranny blew)

2nd start - Idling in drive (before tranny blew)

3rd start - after tranny blew. Listen for the pronounced whine. Idling in park with some revs. I move it through the gears after idle slows down, you can hear the clicks as the shift linkage moves.

Sounds like maybe the pump is messed up on it. It could be if ALL your gears are gone. I wouldnt start it anymore though, you could do more damage.

Unbolt one of the tranny cooler lines, like the top one, and see if fluid is coming out when the engine is running. If it's not, then your pump is gone.

How much is that to repair if it IS the pump.

If It costs more to repair the pump, than it does to replace it with a used one then I probably won't repair the tranny.
