Is this normal for a limited slip?

On my 84 Z28, which has a 3.73 limited slip rear axle. Sometimes it only spins the drivers side, and sometimes it catches both tires, this is normal isnt it?

It is normal when the limited slip(posi) is wearing out.

Limited Slip applies traction to the wheel thats sliping, so at times its going to be one wheel or the other depending on the road surface. Both wheels are not getting traction 100% of the time, the stock rear is not a locker.

Thats not quite right. There is always power applied to both wheels in a limited slip. But... it slips if enough force is put against it because the power is applied through clutches in the carrier. For instance, when you are going straight there is power applied to both wheels, but if you go to turn it allows a "limited" amount of slip so that one wheel can turn faster than the other without binding. If the posi is good it and its not because of bad fluid like mentioned above then you should pretty much always spin both tires unless you have one of the wheels clamped down somehow so that it overpowers the clutches. I would try changing the clutches first and put "GM" posi additive in it and see how it works. If it still gives you one wheel peel then the posi is going out.
