Clunk?? Torque arm bushing?
I've been trying to track down a clunk in my car...
I know you're not really supposed to "down shift" an automatic when rolling, however my car should be able to do a little better than it has lately...
When I go from D to 2, at virtually ANY speed, no matter how fast, it clunks. I mean, I can be doing 10 mph, but if it is in drive and I shift down to 2, it makes a loud clunk in what sounds to be the tail of the tranny. I have less than 200 miles on a new tranny mount and new motor mounts, so I doubt the tranny is shifting too much..
I have also checked both U-joints and they are 100%.
My torque arm bushing is dead... could that be the cause? My guess is that the torque arm is hitting something when I shift down.
Any ideas?

Yes it is definitely the bushing. I've just recently replaced the one on my 89 Iroc. Be sure that you get both pieces though(inner and outer). The outer one should cost $15 and the inner one should cost around $25. It is a b*%!@ to put in though. You will have to remove the cross member that the tranny mount bolts to and lower the transmission and maybe even pry the tail of the transmission over to the passenger side as it is a very tight fit, but it can be done with a little persuasion.
