Speedo is inconsistant....not working

Hi, i have a 700R trans in my 87 bird. My speedo will jump constantly. I believe it is controlled not only by the spedometer cable but also an electronic wire? I'm not too sure about that though. Sometimes it works perfectly but mostly im just cruising around at 0mph , then jumping up and down everytime i hit a bump. I'm pretty sure its because of a loose cable or wire, but my question is where do these run and how could i go about restoring the connection?

Also, just for kicks....

At a speed of over 30mph, (roughly, who knows with no speedo), if i stomp on my pedal my car doesn't downshift. And also, my tranny seems to be shifting really early in all gears. I just had this installed as a rebuilt 700R last summer, could these two problems be connected? Its been doing this ever since i had the tranny put in. I have a Holley 600 carb on it, and i did buy the conversion kit for a Holley and an Overdrive transmission. Maybe i still installed it wrong?

thanks for anything.

Hello! I have had this same issue, I Traced it to something as simple as just a fuse! My Spedometer used to be zero, then jump around 30, 13, 88, 113, 0 ect while driving kept looking around it was just a simple 15 a fuse! please check the fuse box right next to the the hood release cable! Hopefully that solves your problem as well!

Yea I figured you didn't see the date , just razzin ya a bit on the thread necro , no real harm meant . Your 1969 cutlass s must have been a nice car but I'm not sure what it has to do with this board ? You do know that this is a board dedicated exclusively to 1982 through 1992 Camaro/Firebird (General Motors 3rd Generation "F" body) cars , yes ? Do you have a third gen Camaro or Firebird ? If so put it in your profile so people know what ya got if you end up asking any technical questions .

Yes I just got one and these threads are very helpful. Nothing wrong with ball busting lol. I just referred about the car because I used to have it. I now own a 87 trans am v8 5.0. I'll update the profile in a bit I have to go for now.
