700 r4 shift points normal ?

Hello! I have an 85 IROC TPI. JUst curious what the shift points should be under light throttle. mine seems to shift in to 4th at about 20 Mph. and RPM drop to 900. Id this normal. It does not really bother me but want to know if that is the way it is suppost to work. Just got the car and trying to work out any bugs. Thank you for any input.. And i did a search and could not find anything specific..

Not normal unless you have 4.56's.

The avarage stock 700r4 hits 4th under light cruise at 35+ anything lower then that lugs the engine and will downshift under light acceleration NOT WHAT ITS SUPPOSED TO DO. Time to adjust the TV cable.

Thank you

Hey Thank you!

I went right out and tried the fix. And it works Realy until you fully depress the the gas ped. then it goes back to the way it was. I realy think that the cable is OK. Still in great shape and you really have to push the peddle to get it to click all the way. but then it goes right back to the way it was. (shifting to soon).

Any more advice would be great. thanks again...

If you adjusted it and it goes right back to where it was before the cable is most likely bad at least the lock. Cables are around $40 new from Azone, Checker and just about any parts house. Its reccomended that you have some one press the gas while you adjust so you can wiggle the carb/throttle linkage to make sure its WOT.
