Gear ?
Gear ?
Ok heres the deal...I have a 92 RS with a 305TBI. For now it only has some mild mods...ie. Flowmaster exhaust w/Highflow cat, open element, Full MSD ignition and a Stage 2 Chip. I recently purchased a set of SLP Headers but they will be going on this winter. My car is a auto so i take it that it has 2.73 gear with no posi. I think that a 3.42gear with posi from slp would be perfect. My quesiton is which parts do i need to do this? The whole 28spline and 26 spline and 2 or 3 series carrier stuff is confusing me. Can anyone tell me which part numbers i need? I'm looking at motive or strange gears from thunderracing and a posi from slponline.com.....Thanks in advance

if the rear is the orignal from the car, you have 28spline axles. the SLP take out units, are 28spline 3 series carries, so you will need the 3series gears of you choice.
you will also need an install kit, that includes shims bearings and races. if you are thinking of doing the gear swap yourself, you are going to need some specialty tools, for checking pinion depth, and backlash.
that being said. the EASY way to do 3.42's since you already have drum brakes, is to get a whole rear end from a V6 car (alot of them had 3.42's) and installed the carrier on those gears. then you dont' have to mess with setting the pinion depth. you just intall the carrier, check backlash, and wear pattern, and go your merry way.

Cool thanks...I definatly plan on having a shop do the work. I'm new to this stuff and definatly wouldn't wanna screw it up. I'm thinking it should only cost like 2 or 3 hundred to get it all installed. Sound about right? Thanks again
