What does it take to convert a drum rear to disc?
I'm looking for a better rearend to go behind my 383 other than my 2.77 9 bolt. I see plenty of drum rearends for sale so I'm wondering what all needs to be swapped out to get it over to rear discs?

I never did the housing swap but, from what I have seen is old posts. you need to cut the top of the axle flanges off and drill the 4 bolt holes to mount the caliper mounting plate. I had used my old drum axles in a 84 disc rear with no problem. I read on here though that some discs (factory ?) will not clear the flange on the end of the actual axle. I guess If you needed to a machine shop could turn the outside of the flange to fit inside of the disc and the problem would be solved

Well you said a better rearend, did you want just disc brakes, or a stronger one as well? http://www.moserengineering.com/ should be able to help you out.
