Hey Tremec guys....

Hey all you guys out there that have put a tremec 3550 or TKO in your car. What do you think about them? Are they worththe money? I've been considering putting a TKO in my formula to replace the weak T-5 thats currently in it. How do these tranny fare in terms of strength, do they accelerate good? What about gas mileage?

I like mine but i have 2 problems. sometimes it is hard to get into first gear i suspect this to be a clutch disengagement problem maybe related to my lakewood bell housing, so i can't blame the tranny exclusively. Second it hangs kind of low. I occasionally touch parts of the road which is disconcerting! Other than that it has been great for the year i have it. I have been shifting at 6000 rpm with a mustang hurst TKO shifter. I have run it to 6000 rpm in every gear but 5th. Under power it feels great, the T5 i had felt like a torsion bar compared to the TKO. If i had to do it again i would consider the T56 though because i think i might prefer the closer gear spacing but that likely would have required a rear end gear change. So I give it a thumbs up.

Awesome, I'm gonna have to look into the TKO, also I know you need the speedometer kit for it, is that kit actually a VSS?

TKO

I have a TKO in my 69 Chevelle, and love it so much I became a distributor! :-) I've only eyeballed my mileage, but its 15-18mpg with a 500+ 454! :lala:

We have a kit just for your car to make for an easy swap. And even have the electronic speedo adapter for $89. See swap details at http://www.5speedtransmissions.com/3rd_gen_camaro.html

Hey aiky, cut that mount boss off the bottom of the case before you break the tailhousing when it gets caught on something. Just take a sawzall, hand grinder, hacksaw, etc, and cut that low hanging nub off. Might save you some future heartace.

I've had the TKO in my 92 since last December. Very happy with it.
More transmission than my 300 hp motor will ever need, but it is nice after destroying a couple T5's not having to worry about it.
Ground clearance is tight, but overall I'm very satisfied with the trans. It is a heavy sob, though. Changing the clutch now requires some help from a friend, whereas I used to be able to do it solo.
The electronic speedo adapter was extra $, but it is accurate with my 3.73's, so was worth the trouble.

Sweet, thanks for your help. Sounds like I'll be investing in a TKO. I hear ya on the T-5's, I've blown 2 of em and my 3rd is losing syncros now.
