Front Pump went....finding parts?
I'm gonna be getting some help to rebuild my current transmission. I'm pretty sure its the front pump, the car simply wouldn't move at all, plus there was a whining sound in all gears, including park.
Everyone I've talked to says its a pump.
Haven't bought anything yet so don't jump down my throat, I've tried two used transmissions and both were bad. So I figure if its gonna cost me the same amount of money then why not rebuild it with a friends help.
I looked up the prices on pumps and I nearly dropped my jaw, I'm seeing prices of $140 to $200 for pumps, is this the usual price?
All I want is a stock pump. Don't need a 12 or 13 vain pump unless they cost about the same as a stock pump.

Not a single response? I'd like to start looking into pumps, brands etc....
someone must have an idea of what a good brand might be, as well as where to look to find the best prices. I don't wanna get raped on a damn pump.

Haven't ordered anything. Gotta return the one trans first, then I can scrounge. Perhaps denny could send me the money for the bad trans. That way I'll have the money for any other parts.
I did find pumps but they were damn expensive! $140 being the cheapest pump I've seen. That was for a stock 10 vane pump. They had 13 vane pumps for like $200.

You will have to take it apart first, do a complete inspection, then you will know exactly what you will need. You can use the ASTG book for this. You will need solvent, air (for blowing off parts), blue shop paper towels (lint free), the usual hand tools, inch pound torque & foot pound torque wrenches. Have the case and pump body jet washed, throughly rinsed. Once the stator half of the front pump is taken "completely" (all valves, springs, and filter, etc.) apart and cleaned, install the new stator by pressing out the old one. Freeze the new stator for a couple of hours and heat up the aluminum stator half in the oven for 25 minutes at 500F (wear good heat resistant gloves), you then can take the new stator (about $30.00-$40.00) push it in place by hand (without a press), you have about 5-10 seconds to do this. Let cool and install new bolts and stake the dowel pin. Now you can take it to a machine shop to have the surfaces redone (about $20.00-$40.00), along with the new 10 vane rotor & slide assembly. Clearance should be .0015-.002 for the rotor & .002-.0025 for the slide. As for the rest use the ATSG book and rent or borrow the other necessary tools. There are additional tips once you know what you need and want to do.

Damn, thought we could just replace the pump.
*digs a little deeper into the ol' wallet* hope its deep enough.
If I could afford to have someone rebuild the tranny I would. Can't afford even a stock rebuild by someone now, hence the used trannies. Two of them have been bad before we even got the car on the ground now though. The first one never even went into the car. The 2nd one moved the wheels for a bit then made this really nasty noise then the wheels stopped moving completely.
So, rebuild, even done in the house sounds better than betting on another used tranny right now.
Dana, where's a good place to look for a new stock type pump. Not looking for extra performance right now, stock is fine. I know where to get a used pump, but I'm tired of used things going BOOM on me.
