Big Problem need a little help here!

Well i took my car in to get my B&M shift kit intalled and the guy took off my pan and found several peices of metal ranging from 1/4 inch to 1/2. He told me i was gonna need to have my tranny rebuilt (which is a 700 R4). The car has 42,000 miles on it and shifts wonderful. I have never had a problem with the tranny yet. It goes into and outta gear fairly smoothly also. Does this seem like a big problem or can i get by with saving me a $1000 and putting a shift kit in? what would it cost me to go ahead and make it a manual? thanks

Identify the pieces before you get your panties all in a wad. Who knows, they might not even be part of the trans at all, might be just some garbage that was floating around in it before it was last built. Especially if they looked like they had been sitting there a long time; accumulated with clutch dust and all. If they were like that then you can safely assume that whatever they are the trans has managed to work fine for quite some time without them.
