I'm at a loss...Crappy vibration

I have a vibration coming from the rear, still. The tires and wheels have been checked, midas says they are fine. I replaced the shocks, axles(one was bent), I then had the U-joints replaced and the driveshaft balanced, but I still have this vibration over 60 mph. Any more ideas? The tranny mounts look fine. Could it be the yoke on the rear?

I'm sure you replaced the axle bearings when you did the axle swap. How about the rest of the bearings in the rear end? Any of those can give you a vibration.

The axle tube bearings and the carrier bearings were all replaced. I didn't mess with the pinion bearing. Also, more info: the vibration is at 60mph and above, it doesn't matter if its in gear or not, it's still there. It gets progressively worse, the faster I go.

I had the same problem on my old 9 bolt rear. Turned out that the problem was a worn yoke. At some point in its life, the caps were not torqued down all the way, and the yoke wore a little, allowing the u-joint to have a couple of thousands of play. Replaced the yoke and all was well...

I have the exact same problem. I too had my driveshaft balanced and it did not solve the problem.

I used the hose clamp method at the rear of the driveshaft just forward of the rear most weight. This DRASTICALLY reduced the amount of vibration! Unfortuantely, I think it tore up my new tranny bushing or drivesahaft slip yoke while trying to drive with that stupid vibration.

Anyways, do a search for the hose clamp method - it worked for me!

Is changing the yoke a do-it-yourself job for the average shade tree mechanic? What does it entail?
