powertrax/rear end question

I was all set to order up a powertrax locker today when I noticed they sold one for 7.5" and 7.626" 10 bolts. Which one do I have? I know I should just pull the diff cover and see but I really wanted to order it tonight so I can install it this weekend and I can't get a new gasket and gear lube tonight cause all the parts stores are closed. Does anyone happen to knwo what an 87 formula with an open 3.23 rear would have?

The easy way to tell is take off the cover, and it should be stamped on the ring gear, if its a 7 5/8 it will say 7 5/8. take out one axle, real easy and see if its a 26 or 28 spline. You'll need to know before you order.

Personal opinion i won't buy a powertrax, there nice and strong but a pain to install, i would go with a Auburn posi unit, replaces the complete carrier and much easier to install and about $50 cheaper.

With the powertrax I don't have to play with the ring and pinion at all so I won't have to reset them. I've heard the locker installs real easy. And I have an 87 so its the 26 spline axles.

See my post on "Powertrax No-Slip finally installed" on the next page". The Powertrax unit installs Very Easily and simply. You don't have to use a paper gasket, just use some Permatex black high temperature RTV for the gasket, it seals up great and is very easy to remove later.

I agree... it was pretty easy to install my locker. Just make sure you have some thick grease to hold the springs and other bits in place.
