Switching to carb, TC lockup ?'s
Hi,
I've done a search on this topic but couldn't find exactly what i was looking for.
I'm going to be switching my 305 TPI to a carbed 383 (no ecm), and i have a few questions regarding a homemade TC lockup switch.
1. Will wiring the switch to the ALDL connector work when I don't have a computer?
2. I've read that locking the torque convertor manually shortens the life of the transmission and TC. What causes this?
3. If I wire a toggle switch (for highway use), and an n/c momentary switch (on the shifter for drag racing) in parallel, could I avoid some of the negative effects on the transmission by only holding the lockup switch inbetween shifts when racing, and allowing the tranny to shift with the converter unlocked?
thanks alot,
nick

2) not that I know of if used properly. if you only activate it in O/D while cruising at a steady speed then no harm done.
You'll need to buy a switch for it. A few companies (look in jegs and summit) make them ...they're either vacuum or electronically controlled they're around $50
