series 3 diff

what happens if you are wrong and it is a series 2 and i install 3.73 gears on the diff and start launching it at the track?

It's not the thickness, it's the position of the flange in relation to the ring gear side bearing.
If it is a 2 series get the thick gears if not get the regular gears ( they do make both).

ok thanks don, i guess i had it about half right in my head, i thought they used additional material in the mounting flange to move the ring gear. guess if i'd thought about it for a bit i know, even used, spacers and the differant gear thickness. well i never claimed to be anything more than a dumbass and i guess this proves it, thanks again

if the ring gear mounting flang is to thick-> could you shim the carrier close to the driver's side to adjust for the difference in thickness?
if the ring gear mounting flang is to thin -> could you buy the thicker ring gear set from SLP?
if the ring gear mounting flang is to thin -> could you buy the thicker ring gear set from SLP?
