first u gotta find out what rearnd u have, what gears are in it and if its posi or not. judging by the year (92) it most likely has a 10 bolt since GM discontinued use of the 9 bolt in 90. the gearing is probably 3.23s with limited slip (sounds like its worn out now). u can get an SLP take out posi but u wont be able to install it urself, a rear end tech will need to put it in, the carrier will have to be reshimmed so the gears align properly. so if ur gonna go through all the trouble of havin a carrier installed its probably a good time to get a set of gears for it, 3.42s will do the trick. now atleast u can put in a good posi and a nice set of gears at the same time and not have to pay twice to have the rearend worked on.

if its a b4c then he should have 3.42 gears and posi. he should pop off the diff cover and check this stuff out before ordering gears

jack ur rear up, put the car in neutral, spin the wheel, have someone count how many times the driveshaft spins. my rear had a metal tag hanging off the diff cover that said posi on it, my RPO code under the center console was 3.23, did the driveshaft/wheel check, yep, turned 3.23 times
