So my forward sprag and clutch assembly are likely gone.
So my forward sprag and clutch assembly are likely gone.
My transmission is doing the lovely thing where the RPMs will drop to 1000 right after I let my foot off the gas while in D, 2nd, and 1st gear, regardless of what speed I am at. When I apply throttle in D only the RPMs will rise quickly - to about 2500 RPMs - and then I will start to accelerate.
So, this is the forward sprag and clutch assembly, correct? (I did some research).
Two Questions:
1. Is the transmission a lost cause? Does it need to be rebuilt?
2. What can I do to prevent this from happening in the future? This transmission has less than 20,000 miles on it. There is NO reason for it to be having major problems like this...is there?
Help is very appreciated. My transmission has been the bane of my car for far too long. It's been rebuilt twice...and there are still big problems!
Getting tired of my ****ing transmission,

Hello Adam Jones and well I am going through the same ordeal as you are and the above website is to a post I had made previously about my transmission doing that. It could be a combo of a few things wrong, overrun clutches (burnt), input sprag (broken), and overrun hub (broken), and here is a good input on this problem,
so be sure to check the website and you should find out all you need to know.

If its just the hub broken, consider it a parts failure and replace it. If the clutches are burnt, try and find out why. I had a Syclone that burnt up the Overrun clutches and I found the Foward Clutch Piston cracked allowing Foward Fluid to bleed off into the overrun circuit causing them to apply. Since they cannot be applied in 4th gear, it caused a binding condition and the overrun clutches were the weaker link and got smoked.
