R9 something something?

Anybody know anything about optional transmissions that could have gone into an 85 TPI TA? Mine is not the normal one and I think the CarQuest guy said R9 somthing as the code/number. He said not a lot of people ordered this one and that it is actually a great trani. Can anyone tell me anything else about it? It's a 4 speed auto with overdrive.

There were no optional transmissions.

These cars either got a T-5 manual or a 700-R4 automatic. There were no other choices in 85.

So, your car has (or at least had) the same 4-speed auto that all the rest of them had.

It might have a 9-bolt rear end; IIRC those first appeard in 85 T/As. But that has nothing to do with the transmission, and wasn't an "option" as such, it was simply what the factory equipped them with.

Yeah, it does have the 9 bolt, but i know that has nothing to do with the trani. What confuses me is why the filter and gasket set for the 700-R4 is the wrong one. The filter I got to replace the one in the car (which was original as far as I can tell) is not the same shape, size, or design even. I guess I'll go ask the guy again, maybe with a number somebody can tell me what I have there.
