Switching to Turbo 350...get the "adapter" or a new crossmember??
Well, I'm making the switch from my stock 1984 700R4 that finally crapped out on me (check the setup below, it actually lasted a good 4 months on that power). I understand that the crossmembers are not the same between the two trannies. Should I just get the Spohn crossmember for the 350 ($170 with driveshaft loop). or get that "adapter" piece from Summit which is like 80 bucks I think, and use my existing Spohn crossmember. Also, I assume I can't use my Hurst Quarter-stick shifter that I've been using with my 700, right? Thanks in advance.

Do you still have the stock torque arm, or do you have a Spohn torque-arm to go with the crossmember?
I'm pretty sure that you can get Hurst to change the lockplate on your shifter to use it with a 3-speed. I seem to recall hearing that it was possible at least.

He is talking about using the b&m kit that allows you to use the stock torque arm. I have heard it is very weak. It also takes some modding to work. I am also doing a th350 swap soon and I'm gonna go ahead and get the spohn torque arm. You talking ~200 for the crossmember and adapter. For another 175$ you get the crossmember and the torque arm thats adjustable. Will help with traction, will work better because its a better design, and wont destroy tranny mounts as much since the torque arm is now bolted to the frame...not the tailshaft.
I am gonna go that route. More money but better in the long run.

I'm sorry, I should've clarified myself. I have the Spohn adjustable torque arm on the car right now. So does that mean I would have to get the Spohn crossmember anyways? Thanks again.

You should be able to get a TH350 crossmember from Spohn to work with your existing torque arm. You won't need any sort of adapter at all.
700R4 to TH350???
I have a stock 1987 Camaro, I'm unclear on if it is a Z28 or RS cause I just bought it and I think the guy though the Z28 tags on (the rpo codes are gone!) But anyways, what will I need to change to get the TH350 in the car and operating? I dont plan on building the car up, I just want it to run cause the 700R in it now is toast, and I have a 350 trans with converter sitting in my garage! Any advice?

i used the b&m kit to do mine a while back. the kit is not bad, but i think it's mostly designed to be used with the stock torque arm and such. i honestly molested my rubber mounts over a summer and i think it's due to the kit. i plan on getting a new torque arm crossmember kit from spohn as soon as i get the money. a much better opition over all, and the money will be worth it later down the road.
