when i have the inspection cover off can i tell what gears i have and if its posi or open.if so how?

sure can look at the diff if you see little springs in there posi no springs not posi you might have to jack it up and turn it alittle for an idea of the springs i m talking about look at one of the sights that sells aftermarket posi the pictures show the springs so you'll know what your looking for
