Rear end plans...

Ok i am planning on tossing some gears and a posi at my rs. Instead of converting to a 3 series though i am going to stick with the 2 series and save some cash. I have alread found 2 series 3.73s and 3.42s ( the two ratio's i am considering) and i have found a few differant posi differentials that will work with a 2 series. As i am on a budget i fugred this would be a decent way to go. Am i overlooking a major flaw or anything? From what i have been able to find here, the only real advantage to a 3 series carrier is the selection of parts which tends to be larger. Since the car probably won't get any huge power upgrades anything larger than a 3.73 would be pointless (3.73 for most is pointless, but i am not goin to the track that often, just alot of around town driving and some highway) and the stock 2.73s just suck. Any thoughts throw em at me.

I was on the phone with Dana from Probuilt yesterday discussing plans for my rear end. He said it depends on the type of driving you do should direct your choice on what gears you want. If you're going to be going over 100mph, you'll want to stick with 3.42s. If you don't think you'll be going that fast very often, get 3.73s, but he said the difference is neglible.

For me, I'm going to be rebuilding my 3.42s and putting in a posi unit. My rear-end has 260k on it and whines like you would not believe.

Good luck!

Ya i figured that i wouldn't see a huge differance and with the 3.73s ill probably do a bit better around town. Am i right though in thinking that the 2 series will do just as well as a 3 series for my stock and probably close to stock should i ever modify the engine power out put? I haven't seen anybody say that there is any benefit.
