There's more chance of something bad happening with a manual valve-body than there is with the automatic.

Get a governor recalibration kit.

Not sure if this is what you are looking for. . . The TransGo reprogramming kit has two installation modes: A full manual mode and an automatic mode with the ability to hold any gear at any speed.

You pick which way to go and then install it for that mode. There are differences in the installation between the two.

TCI

TCI has a full manual valve body that has the reverse shift pattern. If my 700R4 won't hold its gears buy manually shifting it after I install the shift kit. I,m buying one. They are like $150.00
