I have an 83 z with a new 350 and a 160K mile old 700R4. A couple weeks ago when starting in cold weather the car wouldnt shift out of first gear into second, or it would simply stay in gear up to about 3K rpm and cease delivering power to the rear wheels. I also noticed that when it sayed in first gear all the power was not reaching the ground. I would go like 5 mph and be at 2500 rpm in first. Then two days ago in near freezing weather i started the car and it simply wouldnt go into first. Finally it kind of went into first, but it was like somebody was just barely slipping the clutch...the car wouldnt really move. It wouldnt go into reverse either. Could this be the way I installed the engine? The trans also has a small leak that i simply try to keep topped off. Whats wrong with my car? Thanks for the help.
