Rearend Gears

I have a 1986 Camaro with 2...somethings in the rear! Do i need anything other then the gears to put 3.73 in the rear?? In summit it says i need to change something is this true and what is it? Thanks!

Yes and no. You have whats known as a 2 series carrier. To run a 3.73 you would need to change to a 3 series carrier because the ring gear offset is different. If you have an open diff or your posi is dead, now is a great time to toss in a new posi since you have to change it anyway. But, if you can afford the new carrier, some companies are making 3.73's that fit your 2 series carrier. I dont know what I think of these yet. But when I switched from my 2.80-something open diff, I just swapped in a brand new posi 3 series with my 3.73.

This pic will show you what I'm talking about. The 3.73 gears for the 2 series carriers are considerably thicker to make up for the different offest, and this just seems a little sketchy to me.
