I did mine this way in the car when I fragged the second rear end. I went through on both tubes and tacked a 1/2" on four sides of each tube then proceeded by stitch welding one tube for an inch or so, jumped over to the other tube and did the same, back to the first tube opposite of the bead I just laid, so on and so forth. Might have been a little too cautious on my part, but after this mod and the new diff cover with preload bolts I blew out this new rear in a 1/4 of the time that my other ones lasted. Coul've been streesed ring gear or soemthing, but after this lastest episode I'm never installing a 7.5" under my car ever again. Gettin tired of chaging rears only to implode them again and again weak little bastards anyways.

i would criss-cross across the tube so it does go out of wack from the heating, but people that do it all the time told me that was just overly cautious..... *shrug*

my only question on it is, i wonder if i can have the axle tube on jackstands when i weld it?... but im just going to stick the stand under the chassis, so it hangs.. just to be sure... heh.
