need a racing trans street/strip
need a racing trans street/strip
ok first off....does anyone know of a 700R4 or any other 4 speed auto trans that can be bolted into a 3rd gen that can withstand up to 800HP and lbs/ft torque? im willing to go with a TH350, but will that work out on the highway at speeds over 140mph since its only a 3 speed?(if i dont kill myself 1st).
my other option is to convert to a T56 from a 93-97 fbody. big problems trying to find a complete conversion kit, Ebay doesnt have any, and there are no donor cars around hear. if anyone knows of where i can get everything to do this swap let me know cause this is my 1st choice for a new tranny unless i could possibly get a beefed up 700R4 that will easily bolt in and handle that kind of power.

Hmmm... I know Probuilt makes some badass 700R4's, but I am not sure if they handle more than 600hp! Probuilt himself might chime in here soon enough and let you know. A th350 I think is the three speed... I'm not very confident that it's good for 140mph, but then again I don't know it's gearing. Seems it would have to be pretty wide ratio (super wide).

ya know u could always build one heck of a th350 and get a gear vendor....its like a manual overdrive....it splits the gear by i think like 15% or so i forget...but its sounds to b a cool setup....i know one guy on here has this setup for his 80's vette...his name is like 89tpivette or somthing like that....as for the gear vendor...just do a search and u will find atleast one site that has them...and if all else fails look in the back of one of your car craft or such mag's...there is usually an ad in there....and as for a complete t56 set up...i believe one of the third gen store/shops here on the site has the complete setup for like 1500 or so...i forget...its been a while since i've been on here
.....but good luck to ya and i hope you find a good combo

Sounds like you need a 4L80E. It's basically a TH400 with an overdrive that's used in later model 3/4 and 1 ton GM trucks. Not sure how it will fit in the trans tunnel though, and you'll have to fab up a new crossmember and a front mount for the torque arm. You'll also need an aftermarket transmission control module to make it work, since it's an electronically controlled transmission. Maybe someone here has done this swap in a 3rd gen. before?
