Hi, I just found a early 80's Camaro probably about 83-84 and I was wondering if I can use the gearing (sorry I dont know much about transmissions) and replace it with the current 2:73 I have in my car? Thanks.

 

Are you talking bout rearend gears, if so, then yes you can they are both 7.5" ring gear.

 

Ok cool, I found the Camaro today just sitting on the side of the road, shes in bad shape tires are flat windscreen smashed etc but I'll find out how much it will cost to tow her to my dads place. It seems rather odd that some one just dumped a Camaro of any sort because they are quite rare here in Australia.

 

silly question but wouldn't having it towed to your dads place be a lot like stealing and making your dad an accessory? not sure how it works down there but i'd check with someone before i did it. as for your question the only rears it could have would be a 9 bolt, 10 bolt or dana 44. if the rear cover looks like the one you have then most likely there won't be any issues with swapping parts and such. in 89 the splines were changed on 10 bolts from 26 to 28.

 

Yeah of course I was going to check first to see if some one owned the car However I went to look for it tonight and lo-behold it wasnt there I mean this car was a bomb and it was unregistered and all the tyres were flat so I dont know what happened to her but shes not there, oh well nothing gained nothing lost as they say.
