26 or 28 spline

ok so ...i have a 86 camaro --parts car-- and my 91 rs.

i see a few deals on ebay for 26 spline , posi with 3.73s, around 150-200 dollars for both....BUT thats only for the 26 spline there are no posi units + gears combo deal for 28

what im asking here is, whats the diff between 26 and 28. IF i find a deal that costs lets say...30 dollars more for the 28 spline posi and gears, is the 28 spline a better rear to use? or are they both about the same rear end? help me out here fellas

I had a similar problem when I bought a new Locker for my 87 T/A and it was a 28 spline and my car was a 26. I called Moser and they told me that I had to have axles made to make the carrier fit etc. If I were you, I would call them up and get some info from them, they are very happy to answer your questions and help you out.

A 28 spline axle is larger in diameter than a 26 spline, so if you have both, use the 28.

26 or 28 spline axle shafts have to have matching ID splines in whatever carrier you plan on using. Can not be mixing parts it will not work.

Yeah sorry I forgot to add that...the axles will not physically fit if the spline count is off.

Use the 28 splines axle shafts if you have matching parts. The higher the spline count the more contact and stronger part.

i figured as much.....but how much stronger......itd be easier for me to use the 86 cause i can take my time installing the gears......but if the 28 is a good bit stronger...ill use the 28 and suffer not having a car for a couple days....

The 28 spline shafts were upgraded in 1989 and in all future 3rd & 4th Gen cars. If you want use the OLD style 26 shafts go ahead and use them, why drag this Post out any longer.
