lost 5th gear, snap ring? help
Im not going to pretend I know what the problem is, but i lost 5th gear a while ago, after browsing the boards adn talking to people im guessing the problem is a snap ring. how do i go about fixing this? any tips or help are appreciated. Im a poor college kid (who just lost his job earlier today) So i cant afford to take it over to a mechanic. :-(

Pull the trans out of the car. Pull the tailshaft housing off the trans. This will allow you to see the 5th gear and determine what went wrong. For $20 you can get a complete overhaul manual from Hanlon Motorsports. They also stock anything you need to get it working again.

Bringing this one back....
Just thought I would share, my good fortune
Lost 5th and sure enough the snap ring popped off, I must not have seated it all the way...
Live and learn, 2.95 cents later for new snapring good as new.
In the pic below you can see the loose snap ring and the 5th gear slid back.
