Question???

A: It's designed not to shift into overdrive if your foot is all the way to the floor. You must be at 2/3 throttle or less before the tranny shifts into OD. So when you hit the top of 3rd gear, you'll have to let off the gas to allow for the shift. But putting your foot back into it will probably cause a downshift resulting in the same problem.

B and M makes a kit modified kickdown valve (part # 70237) which fixes this problem. It costs about $30 and can be ordered through the Summit or Jegs. GM also makes a modified upshift valve which it included in police packages and that part # is 8673948 and sells for around $15. This will allow the tranny to shift into OD at full throttle.
do i just go to my GM dealer and tell them i want part# 8673948? and do i have to take the transmission apart to put this in? if so should i have a shop do it?also willl this help my 1/4mile times? sorry about the newbie like questions the only thing i dont understand on cars is the transmission. and this is not the car i have under my advatar this is my 86' Z-28 with a 350.

This will not help your 1/4 mile time - because by the time you would need a WOT 3-4 shift you'd be well beyond 1,320 feet
(1/4 mile)

This WILL help if you find that you get into 'play races' on the freeway sometimes - then you would need a WOT 3-4 shift so you don't get SMOKED

Just to clarify the B&M kit will not make the trans upshift into 4th gear at WOT. It will prvent a downshift at anything less than 3/4 throttle. It actually has nothing to do with the upshift. I installed the valve in my Blazer. The GM part is what you need.

This won't do anything for your 1/4 times, unless the car is really fast and has super tall rear gears, and actually needs 4th gear to get through the quarter.

When I bought the "B-Car Fix" Part #8673948 for new factory upshift sleeve for WOT upshift into OD. I was under the impression that it replaced the TV valve. It doesn't, it goes in on the other side of the valve body in place of the 3-4 shift valve. I have an ASTG manual and it shows the placement.

I just gave the part number to the guy at the GM parts counter and he ordered it for me. Cost me $19.95. I have seen it cheaper at online GM parts houses but I would have had to pay for shipping too.

Installatin requires removing the valvebody. If you have ever installed a shift kit its an easy no brainer.

most shops here charge 75 bucks an hour labor charge to remove/install tranny, to take the pan off, etc...

dont know about installing the actual kit though

If you are mechanicaly inclined, and have worked on cars before it is not a bad job at all, took me 3 hours the first time I did one and I had never seen the inside if a transmission either. Get the part and the shift kit and look through the instructions. You be the judge of weather or not to do it. I say if you have a good set of tools, try it. If you think it is going to be too tuff, there is nothing wrong with paying someone to do it for you, but its going to be around two hours maybe three in labor.
