slicks with a stock rear?

slicks with a stock rear?
i just recently put a decent 350 in my car and i can get no traction. if i put 10 inch slicks on my car with the stock rear, will it snap like a twig? if so, has anyone used the dana 44 rear in their car? any prices on this swap? all labor will be done by me. any help is greatly appreciated.

i run 10 inch slicks on my camaro with a 10 bolt.it runs in the 12s. only time it broke was when it wheel hopped in the burn out box.good thing i had spare axel.
i ran slicks on my stock rear some this season. the rear held up fine, but i twisted my stock drive shaft with the slicks
with stock parts, its always hit or miss if they will last with added abuse.

No consistent results. If you are trepidacious about getting slicks maybe you should consider doing a few of these preparations first:

For a street/strip car that's a great rear end, but I'll take mine for the strip so if I change cams, slicks, tracks 1/8 or 1/4 I can gear accordingly without having to remove the rearend or take it someplace
Not to mention the fact the c-clips become an issue when you go faster, even by installing the c clip eliminator kit you still have to have an axle retension device which the 9" offers with the horseshoes on the ends of the axlew tubes. Parts avalibilty for a 9" is much broader than for a 12 bolt on a what's your buddy have sitting around the shop kinda deal-and again, if something breaks, you pull the center section and install a different one since most of us know guys that have them sitting around ready to go even if the gearing is'nt exactly what you need. They both have their pluses and minuses per application and in either case it's better than what these junk 7.5's have to offer on their best day. I even went and welded the axle tubes then added the pre-load aluminum cover, this one imploded in only 3 months with the gearing setup spot on, the first one lasted longest with the spacer and I just bolted it together, shimmed to what I thought "felt" right-no strength adders at all and I got 1 1/2 seasons out of that one. The last 2 I had set up at our local rear end place that does alot of our guys diffs had short lived lives, but the 3.73 ring gear is noticably thinner than a 3.42 too for what that's worth

I used to love hanging out in the nascar garages, especially gasoline alley at Indianapolis, watching those guys at work. It's amazing how many center sections they have ready to pop in and out, not to mention motors, trannys, etc, lol. 9 inchers are nice, but I like to stick to gm products, lol.

I never thought of it either, till i broke one....now i paint 3 or 4 straight lines on my driveshaft when it's new, so i can visually check for slight twisting, before it breaks. probably would have saved me some money when i broke the first one, i probably would have seen the twists before i broke it.

Did you ever think that the reason your ring and pinion broke was due to the fact that you are using GM gears? I can see the GM on the ring gear in the picture! Try Richmond or someone else.

Twisting a driveshaft! That is a load, no offense. People are running 11's on factory driveshafts. So are you pulling 10's!

You must have not been to the track much. I've seen twisted driveshafts in a few cars, including mine. They twist before they break.

Where do you see GM on the gears? That's a pic of his FORD 9".

guess i'm the only one who's seen one with an inpection cover before, and since he did say it was a ford...
And no he said "Just blew out my 3rd gear set Ford 9" going in before '04 season"

i personnaly am not taking the chance again, im sure i could get lucky and run 11's on a stock shaft
