posi question

hey guys i am buying a rear from a v6 camaro tomorrow. i want to make it posi. i think but i'm not sure if it's under an 89 it has 26 spline and if it's 89 and newer it's 28 spline. can you get a posi for either? am i corrrect? thanks for the help.

edit:

also is that rear the 7.5 10 bolt?

you can get a posi for either 26 or 28 spline. 89 was transition year, you need to pull an axle and start counting to know what you have. best bet would be to get a SLP and new axles if you need them.

i saw on monster garage when they built that el camino for the figure 8 racing he welded something in the rear to get it to be a posi. what did he weld and would it last and be ok?

I agree with ede. Welding the spider gears together is probably one of the oldest and most ******* tricks in hot rodding. Basically it permenantly ties the axles together and eliminates the operation of the differential. So in a drag car, youll probably be fine for just going in a straight line but in a street car your rear end will be much more prone to skidding as the wheels cannot turn freely from one another.

Also the welds tend to make the rear end unbalanced, and can lead to a cracked case among other things...
