worth t10 or wait for t5?
worth t10 or wait for t5?
I have a 700r4 in my stock 91RS with the 305 TBI. I'm planning on leaving the 305 TBI... for a few years at least. I want to swap to a manual for the fun of driving it, i'm not going to be putting out any sort of amazing hp or torque for a long time (high school student heading off to college). I've been reading around but really can't find any valuable information that will tell me whether i will notice not having a 5th gear. Will I be greatly limited if i put in the 4-speed t10? I ask this becuase i have a junkyard up the street that has a t10 sitting in it waiting to be picked up. I want to grab it do a rebuild and put it in but i want to get a few opinions. I've read these things are built strong, bulletproof, etc. but i'm looking at performance/driveablity.

Well some NASCAR teams still run them, so I guess they're pretty strong. The T10 is a lot stronger than the T5. You may have problems with the torque arm mounting though.
The 5th gear is up to you. It is overdrive, so the mileage will be better.
Now that I've driven a 6-speed all 5-speeds seem like they're missing a gear to me.

While the super T10's are nice & stout, you'll run into more complications with adding a torque arm mount & getting a new driveshaft, and the overdrive will give you mileage (or top end, depending on how you look at it.
Down the road if you plan on a stouter engine, think about doing a T56. Just my opinion.

Thanks for the opinions. I was a little worried about the whole driveshaft ordeal. I think I will wair for the t5, and actually i went up to the junkyard today to get a price on the tranny and someone had pulled it in the last 2 weeks. It had been there for the 3 months i had been going to the junkyard and then someone took it when i was thinking about it, but isn't that how it always is?
