average shift at wot is around 4k

i had my tranny rebiult a while ago with a shift kit and jus wonderin what u guyz think about this problem

at wot in OD the tranny will shift any where from 3500-4500. mostly in the 3500-4k range, the cable is adjusted properly, i read a few web sites saying that the govenor they used is probly not one from an camaro/firebird maybe from a blazer or truck wit a low shift point ?

any 1 have an idea

yeah i think ur right about the governor weights and springs are not right, since u said the cable is set right. so it still shifts into every gear fine it just doesnt go high enough; hows the manually shifting working?

manual shifting is what i have to do when i take it to the track, casue i cant get the right shift point but that works good, jus whould like it to do it in OD or D.

another ? i forgot also with this problem it wont down shift to 2nd from OD after 45 only down shift to 3rd so its slow getting speed around there unless i manually do it then its ok but i rather not do it manually so is it the govenor ?

I had the same problem with a "built" trans. It's the governor.... The S-10 thing didn't work for me. Same lousy shift. Same with a stock Camaro (albeit an 85 in my 89 trans) and a stock Corvette. What helped considerably was I took the yellow spring off the stock V-6 governor and put it on my governor that was modified from the ( to remainun-named) trans shop and it kicked it up to 5K upshift with normal passing gear operation and part throttle around town shifting.

Both governors had the "C" weights and the other spring was black originally IIRC. It was a really heavy spring as I recall. It was instaled so long ago there is no paint left on the heavy spring to verify the color. If I had more springs, I could probably do even better.

I would reccomend fixing the problem quickly or you will thrash the 3/4 clutch pack. I waited too long before I did mine and now the trans is gone.... At least until my new Probuilt unit shows up in a couple of weeks....
