Auto Tranny Experts

I've got a mint rebuilt 700R4 tranny out of an 86 corvette. I've also got a dead 700R4 out of an 87 V-6 camaro. The corvette trans uses a shorter output shaft and tailshaft housing which has no provision for a standard tranny mount. Can I swap the standard length output shaft and tailhousing out of the camaro tranny into the vette tranny? Thanks.

I don't have an answer for you, sorry. But, don't toss that output shaft housing away. They are valuable to Corvette people. If you need to get rid of it check with the local Vette club and I'm sure somebody would take it off your hands. Or take it to your favorite tranny shop and they would love to have it on their shelf I would think.

the tailhousing i think is... just use some silicone around the 4 bolts to assure no leaks, i had to swap min too cause one of them didnt have the chassie bar support...

you may have to swap speedo gears too depending on the different rear ends

The tailshaft housing will fit, but in order to swap the output shaft, you have to take the whole transmission apart. It isn't as easy as just swapping it out. If that is what you had planned on, then yes, they will swap.

Even if its not what you planned on, it'll still swap..

To swap the output shaft you do indeed have to take most of the trans apart, but its not TOO bad of a process (certainly less difficult than a complete rebuild).. You just take out the major rotating pieces as assemblies (no need to disassemble the clutch packs or anything)... Would be a nice time to install a good shift kit while you have the valve body off as well (also when you're not upside down under your car later wondering where that checkball rolled off to )...
