Stock tranny cooler question

I'm going to install an oil cooler for the transmission fluid. I posted a while back and SSC told me that on the stock cooler built intot he radiator, the top line is feed and the bottom is return.

My question is that. What size are the fittings needed to screw into the male and female connectors? I presume if I just unscrewed these to test some fitting I have the fluid would pour out?

Thanks for the help

i'm not 100% sure but i think scc has it backwards. i always thought it was a sort of reverse gravity thing with any cooler of this sort. that is the fluid was forced in and up from the bottom and the top was the return. the fittings are standard double flare. measure the line size and that's the fittings you need. open end wrench works as a good gage to measure with. i think they're 5/16 but best to check yourself and not trust some dumbass on the net.

Not too much, if any, fluid would come out the top fitting when you unscrew it. Unless you have your engine running during this. I think the bottom would leak out about 1 cup of fluid when you open that one up. The cooler in the radiator doesn't hold much fluid.

Bottom line is from the transmission to the cooler, top line is from the cooler to the transmission. The fittings are 5/16" inverted flare.

Yup, SSC must have been thinking of a 200-4r which i believe is reversed...

Thanks for the replies. I have since mounted the cooler and have just to connect the hoses to the cooler in the radiator. I managed to find a couple of fittings in the house, which was nice.

Thanks again
