Yep, that is the kick down cable and If I remember correctly from doing mine, just pull down on that lever and the cable is just hooked in there. Or have someone push the throttle to wide open and the disconnect it. The cable goes through a rubber boot into the transmission case. Oh yeah, there is also a bolt holding the cable to the case on top, it is visible in the picture.

That is the Tv cable not a kickdown. You must unhook the cable at the TB and unbolt the 10mm bolt shown in the picture. Lift up on the cable wich will make it much more easy.

You do not need to unhook the cable at the TB, it will come apart without even opening the hood. Just make sure you adjust it when you're done.

Do lift up on it though as it will give you more room to manuever it around.

I know the feeling well, I had to change mine because the previous owner had kinked it real bad. In the process of pulling the old cable out, I acquired a vocabulary that would make even the saltiest sailor blush. Then I happened to spot the bolt and bracket that was holding the blasted thing to the back of the engine. After putting several 1/4" drive extensions together, I was finally able to get a socket on the bolt and loosened the bracket enough to pull the cable through. I forgot to mention that car was outside, it was cold out, had transmission fluid dripping on me, busted knuckles, rain started, and the wife sweetly asks " honey, can you go to the store for me".
