Going to do auto -> T5 swap in a week. Any advice?
As the subject says, Im going to do a auto -> T5 swap in my v6 over spring break and have a few questions. I read the technical article on this subject and was wondering how you knwo if your tranny uses gear oil or tranny fluid (dexron)?
Also, I was not able to get the bolts that connect the bellhousing to the engine(long story), I was wondering if I could use the bolts from the auto tranny. Are they the same?
One more, Im pretty sure my car only has two bolts holding the pedals on and the pedals I got from the boneyard ahve four. I dont think these are just bolts because they did not come loose when I took the pedals off the car at the junkyard. Does anyone know if these are studs or something and how to get two more in if I need them?
Any other advice anyone has to give on diong this swap would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

IF you have all the parts handy the swap itself is cake.
The pedals are held in by the nuts / bolts that hold the power brake booster in, plus a "hidden" bolt that points almost straight up....
I've done more than a few of these swaps...and if I've learned anything, I've learned the following...
- Pull the drivers seats all the way out. It takes very little time and your back will thank you when contorted to get under the dash.
- Do the pedal change first, it makes everything else seem easier.
- Tin snips to a great job of cutting the hole for the shifter.
Make sure the torque arm mount is the same, some are different between T5 and 700's.
Same thing for starters...the T5 starter actually has smaller case.
don't forget a pilot bearing install in the end of the crank too.
