Maybe.... look
It's like "do I have a posi?" We can all guess, look up codes, talk about what it should have, what year or motor option or whatever, etc.; but nothing is quite as certain as looking.

Actually, 1988 models were the first ones to get the WCT5. 1987 models have the regular T5.

I've also noticed my NWC has cast in the side of the casing "Basic 1", and the WC says "Basic 1A"....
Pretty much, if you can verify it's the original trans, all '88 - 92's got the WC trans.

Look at the pics.
You see that round thing, not the big rusty one with bolts in it at the top right of each pic, but the smaller one near the center of each? That's how you tell just by looking.

If you've looked closely enough to recognize that difference, then you may want to look at another difference. the Basic1 or 1A on the side of the casing. You can see that also - just by looking.

Re: Is a 1988 T5 World Class?
There's no "plug" in those pics up there... only the clutch gear bearing retainer and the front countergear bearing ... ????
If it has the bearing that looks like an upside down freeze plug, with an absolutely flat shiny surface except with the edges not "sharp", then it's a 1st design unit. If the bearing is dull and sort of greenish-gray with the center dimpled in such that it looks like there's a "step" about 3/16" wide all the way around and the edge is "sharp", it's 2nd design. The two designs are so profoundly different because of the 2 styles of bearings used, that there is no possibility of the one type of bearing being used in the other model of transmission. No further "identification" is necessary.
