Broke my converter or my tranny?
Broke my converter or my tranny?
I bought my car 2 weeks ago. A 96 Z28 with a B&M Holeshot 2400. Anyways, first day I drove it I could hear a whine coming from the tranny. I figured the converter was whining because of the ****ty tranny fluid the previous owner used. I was planning on changing it tomorrow, but the worst happened today. As I was leaving the gas station I gave it some gas and I hear a *CLUNK*. The car instantly goes into neutral. I tried every gear and nothing, neutral for all of them. All I can hear is the whine, but louder and matching the engine's RPMs. Like they're connected, so Im guessing I broke the converter
The tranny was shifting perfectly except at WOT, second gear would slip a bit, but I can blame that for ****ty tranny fluid that turns into water when warm.
Whaat do you think, converter or blown tranny? Or maybe a gear selector wire got disconnected but I'm leaving that out cause of the weird whine (like a turbine).

According to my Ron Session's book, the converter doesn't leave you in neutral. It either leaves you feeling like you're in a too low or too high gear. So my guess is the tranny. Could be just the pump, but if that's the case I would rebuild it all anyway.
Good luck.
Good luck.
