Whats involved in installing it myself? Whats the difference in a .500 boost vlave and another size like .420 boost vlave?
i had mine put in while i had the trans rebuilt, but i believe it is fairly simple, going into the throttle valve on the trans. The .500 boost valve is bigger than the .420, requiring more fluid pressure for the trans to downshift. It does affect the downshift points slightly, but once you get used to it, its no big deal, especially with lower gears.

Plant Protection is right it has nothing to do with WOT 4th gear. I think HPP4mula350 is thinking of the valve that goes in the valve body. the .500 boost vavle installs in the pump assembly.
