question about changing trans filter

I recently installed a transgo shift kit.. Also installed the new filter that came with the kit. After I was done, I realized that I did not remove the old o-ring that was from the old filter.. I just pushed in the new filter with new o-ring on it.. It felt tight, I dont think it will come out..

But will leaving the old o-ring in there cause any harm to the tranny?? I would really hate to have to drop the pan again to take it out, but If I have to , then I guess I will...

If I do, would I be able to re-use the o-ring that came with the new filter? Or should I chuck that one too and just buy a new one??

Thanks

i'd guess more people hurt their own trans by doing what you just said and having the filter fall off or fail to seal and not get oil into the trans and burn up soft parts that need the oil. i'd buy a new one and r&r it, again.
