Governer question, help end this debate at work.

Ok were having a somewhat heated debate at work about automatic transmission function.

Symptom car 3 speed auto, holds first gear to 30+ mph then if you let off the gas it will skip 2nd and go into 3rd. If you happen to get it in 3rd gear and manually pull it into second it will not enguge second but pull it down to first and it will enguge 1st. Second gear is gone.

After inspection of the transmission the governer driven gear is fairly toasted.

I'm being told, actually argued with that putting another driven gear on the governer will fix the problem.

I dissagree and think it will not solve the problem.

Granted the governer isnt working properly but if you get it to shift to 3rd and it was only the governer that was bad you should still be able to pull it manually into second.

So what do you guys think?

Put in the governor gear first, see what happens. Why it went to third with a broken/burnt gear.......

Sounds more like a plugged passage.
