Rebuilding rearend?
Hey guys, im about to pull the rear end from my 83 firebird to swap to my new 88 gta project car. The rear has 157,000 original miles on it, so it could probably use some freshening up. I assume I should replace the bearings and gasket, but what else do I need to do? Will I need any special tools for anything? I have never rebuilt a rear end before.

To replace the bearings you will need a press. You can usually run the center piece, and the pinion to a shop w/ a press and get them to press off the old stuff and the new stuff on for fairly cheap. The one I went to did it for free. Check and look closely at the bearing races though when you replace the bearings. You don't wanna ruin new bearings w/ old crappy races. You have have to get a removal too from Autozone to pull the races out and put the new ones in.
