Torque converters, Edge or Midwest...
Im going to be gettting a 2800-3000 stall within the next couple weeks. Vigilante is too expensive, so Ive narrowed it down to Edge or Midwest, both companies seem to have a good reputation and reasonable price at ~$575. The Edge is custom made to your specs, and Ive heard postitive feedback on them, but I havent heard as much about them as I have about Midwest. What converters are you guys running? Anyone with experience or comments about either of these?

I just talked to the guy at Edge and he recommended thier 3000 stall converter. I also talked with the guy at Midwest and he recommended the 2800 stall. why would they be different?
Midwests prices are now the same as Edge or anyone else in the $500 bracket.
Ive also talked with westcoastconverters.com and the guy at Edge say they would be a close second to Edge. He says that Vigalante rapes people with their prices and all the top notch converter companies use the same inners and such. He seems to be pretty honest and really didnt care which company I went with.
Says, one of the main reasons that most or some of the companies offer a free stall is because they may not get it right the first time and Edge garantees they will the FIRST time.
I know all of the companies have their sales pitch and to who is better but even Dana at Pro-built recommends Edge if not Vig.
It seems the West side of the US is where its at!
Im going to get a converter but I just want to be sure it the correct one.
(jfreeman74): did you run that 13.79 with or without the Midwest converter?

If you think that PI's Vigilante is ripping you off costwise?, or is the same as the Edge, Midwest, etc., then go to http://www.pro-built.net/index.cfm?fuseaction=tech and read this about the Vigilante, and you will see why the higher price.

No, no, no Dana!...those where my words and maybe I didnt put them in the right way. I mean that yes you get what you pay for with Vig. but they seem to be over priced. ..to me. but what do I know, thats why im asking?
no negativity from my part. ..just bad wording.
Ive read that link (excellent write-up)before and yes they have a great rep but Im sure they are not the only good verter company around. just cant be. but then again thats just my opinion. Like I said every company has their sales pitch and PI seems to have a strangle hold on the verters.
jus my .02
I'll make my choice soon I just hope its the correct one. I hope to get what I pay for and be worth it!

I agree that the Vigilante is probably a very good converter but I think for most situations they are overkill. I just don't think the improvements in the article warrant paying twice the amount of other companies when a Midwest or probably even Edge would meet your needs. Have you had you car dyno'ed? Where does the torque peak out at? You look to have a similar setup to mine. I have the 2800 stall. I would stick with that unless you plan to do heads, cam and intake. I may be doing heads and cam soon and I may send mine back to Midwest to have it restalled to 3000-3200. By the way, the 13.7 was definetly after the converter. It made a HUGE difference. Best mod that I have done.

I ended up buying a 3400 Edge, the engine isnt in the car yet so I dont have any results yet... I just couldnt justify $700+ for a torque converter.
