Flywheel and clutch problem
i pulled my engine in about late november, early december. When i did i took the flywheel and my centerforce dual friction clutch off. I just looked at it today and noticed it had a good ammount of surface rust and $hit on it. i cleaned it off the best i could but there is still some surface rust on there. Is it ok if put these on my new motor and have the rust wear off, or will it mess the clutch up. Also could i use a buffing pad on an angle die grinder to remove the rust, or would this remove a layer of metal making it uneven? thanks in advance, i dont really want to spend another 300 on a clutch when mine only has about 1500 miles on it. thanks again...
I doubt that a little bit of surface rust would cause you any harm....
... but, I would get some "scotchbright" pads from the hardware store and clean them up. I'm not sure what they are called, but are great for removing rust and scale without destroying the surface of your flywheel or pressure plate. They chuck into a drill, or grinder and work awsome.
